It could quite easily have been a depressing affair but many of the brother's outrageous acts prove most amusing.
All this film is asking is for a little understanding of the pressures on families who have to support people like Charlie. Set in the suburban Early 90s, loving production design and costumes are particularly fine. Thomas is at just that point in adolescence when he's acutely conscious of all his defects, and in teenage social terms, Thomas is a defect.
